Northeast Extension on Pennsylvania Turnpike reopens after crash involving 2 tractor-trailers
A Northeast Extension on the Pennsylvania Turnpike has reopened after a crash involving two tractor-trailers in Lehigh County closed the highway for several hours Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes between the Quakertown and Lehigh Valley exits at around 2 p.m. on April 15. Chopper 3 was over the scene on the turnpike and captured burnt wreckage from the crash on the highway.
In a post on X, the Pennsylvania Turnpike initially wrote that the portion of the Northeast Extension between the Quakertown and Lehigh Valley exits was closed "for recovery of the vehicles involved in the earlier incident."
In an update posted just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, the agency said the crash was cleared and the detours around the accident were lifted.
It's unclear what led up to the crash or if anyone was injured. CBS News Philadelphia has reached out to Pennsylvania State Police for more information about the incident.
