It's going to be a windy day in the Pittsburgh area with cooler temperatures compared to Monday
It's going to be a windy day throughout the Pittsburgh area with cooler temperatures than we saw yesterday.
Any Alert Days Ahead? One could make the argument today is a First Alert Weather Day with strong winds, falling temperatures, and snow overnight.
Aware: Last year's final measurable snow was March 19th. If we see measurable snow today it would be the latest recording of measurable snow since April 19, 2022.
So how cold are we expected to get today and tomorrow as a trough blasts south pushing arctic air into our region? I have us down to 29 degrees on Thursday morning with clear skies. Afternoon temperatures today and on Wednesday will top out in the mid-40s. Temperatures will continue to fall most of today with overnight lows tumbling to 35 on Wednesday morning.
The cold air will allow us to see a changeover from light drizzle and rain showers to snow showers overnight. Wind speeds will also pick up as the cold air moves in with wind advisories in place for Somerset County to the east and through 8 p.m. this evening.
Wind chills will dip to the mid to low 20s on Wednesday morning. It is going to be cold.
Looking at your Easter weekend, Most of Friday should be dry and pleasant with only a brief rain chance. I have highs on Friday hitting the mid-70s. Saturday won't be as warm with highs near 70. Rain showers are also expected to be around for the entire day. While everyone will see rain on Saturday, it won't all be at the same time.
Rain chances will be highest Saturday morning along I-80. Afternoon hours will see the highest risk of rain occurring along I-70.
Will the next 55 hours be winter 2025's last gasp?
Right now it looks that way. The average high temperature for this time of the year is in the low 60s with average morning lows in the low 40s. Data is showing a strong chance for well above average temperatures for the remainder of the month. Climatology also shows we are running out of time to see anything more than a trace amount of snow.
For the past two years, the last measurable snow of the year occurred in mid-March. Three years ago we saw our last measurable snow happen April 19th.
So measurable snow is still possible for our area, but coupled with the strong signal for warmer weather for the rest of the month you can understand why this may be it for winter.
